Here are some short activities on the smartboard that students can use to learn their word families. You will find a variety of activities in each one: Fill in the blank, word shapes, sorting vortex with pictures, roll and write, word family videos, picture match, and much more! I'll be adding more throughout the year, so enjoy reading and writing with word families!!! You can find these at my TPT store by clicking the picture below!
Here is a basic assessment data sheet for the beginning of the school year. I usually try to send it out to all my parents before open house. I have found that the more information you give to parents and the more you communicate openly about their child's progress the better off the year will be! Enjoy!
It's that time of year! Ready to start implementing math stations with my little first graders! I searched for several great ideas on pinterest like "BUILD" or "MATH" and came up with a concept to fit my classroom theme! CASTLE Time! I'm pretty excited about the amazing opportunities my kids will have this year in math. Here's what they mean:
C - Cool Games - play review games with a buddy A - All By Myself - independent math work from math expressions S - Showing with Items - using math manipulatives to solve problems T - Thinking About Numbers - practicing number sense, place value, drawing and writing numbers L - Learning and Listening - also with a buddy, students can teach each other or buddy read a math book together E - Explain All About - students will record themselves solving and explaining a math concept with a flip cam Students will be able to move in and out of the stations at their own pace, but just like my Daily 5 stations, they will need to choose two first using the smartboard and only 4 friends can be at a station at a time. Grab one for yourself at my TPT store by clicking the picture below! Here's the first week of writing for the school year! Not too fancy, but please use if you can! This will all be from Lucy Calkins Writing Program. Enjoy! You can find it at my TPT store by clicking the picture below!
I found this great cover inspiration on pinterest, and just had to use my cute castle clip art to make some handwriting pages. There are about 10 pages in all with multicultural princes and princesses. I will be adding some fixer-upper sentences for my class to correct each Friday morning. Enjoy this blank freebie or purchase a full year worth of sentences (72!) at my TPT store by clicking the picture below!
Here it is! Ta-Da!!! Inspired of course by pinterest. I'm going to give it a go e-version this year. Students will be able to choose to Must-Do stations before going on and choosing some alternative choices that intergrate literacy. I'm not used to letting loose with my students, so now is the time! Students will be moving at their own pace with as much time as they need. If they have time left, they can choose other fun choices to engage the brain and help sharpen some imperative developmental skills! I cloned the kids pictures so that I won't have to keep re-sizing and re-making them in case they accidentally get deleted. Students will drag their picture to their first choice above the thick black line and after finishing they will drag their picture to their second choice. I'll let ya know how it goes!
Our back to school picnic is just a week and a half away - time flies! I wanted to be a little more organized with this year's picnic and give directions on paper so I will not be interrupted as much about what to do next. I came up with 7 stations for my parents and kiddos to do while in their new classroom! My favorite is my new 1st grade photo booth station - can't wait to see how it turns out! Also, how many of you try to get pictures of each student and inevitably some sneak away without a picture?! I am going to position myself and the sign-in board at the front door to my classroom and have it be the 1st stop! No more sneekers!!! :o) To make life a little bit easier I also made cooresponding signs to hang from the ceiling that are easy to be seen. Hopefully this will lesson some confusion and ease some nerves at our first meet and greet!
Back to school time is just around the corner! I made some labels for my sterilite drawers to help me stay a little more organized and a little more sane this year haha! I have made drawers for organizing lost or broken crayons. This way when the kiddos complain of not having another color at their table or can't find a certain color - TA-DA! - travel on over to the crayon drawers! I added some labels for my daily drawers for planning and some labels for my new pencil drawers. Things just look so much more clean when they are stored in a drawer! I also made a new flow chart for learning how to wash your hands. My old one was a little dated. Pictures of both in the room are coming soon!
Check out this Reader's Toolbox of tools at my TPT store by clicking the picture below! As we start off the year with community leaders, this will fit right in with learning about construction workers! I'm going to cut and laminate a set for each of my students to keep in their Book Bins so that they can practice the reading strategies on their own and with partners! I love giving them hands-0n items and I hope this will get them even more excited about reading! |
